The “Double Your Donation” Campaign Raises $22,000 for Charities

The Huntingdon County Foundation kicked off the campaign on May 1 and donations were collected through July 15. Huntingdon County Foundation Chair, Attorney Lawrence Newton said that the organization is pleased that, by working with the community at large, the foundation was able to “give over $22,000 back to our non-profits.”

Foundation Treasurer, John Eastman said that the fundraising idea was inspired by similar matching programs adopted by a number of fundraising organizations. John said “We’re just thrilled. It far exceeded or expectations.” John noted that the Foundation Board selected nine 501(c)3 charities and turned to the Foundation’s David Goodman and William Alexander Memorial funds for seed money. Seventy-seven community members contributed funds, which the Foundation matched. It was a 50-50 match. Community members selected which of the nine non-profits they would like their donation and the Foundation’s match to go to. The Foundation matched up to $250 per donation. “Our Foundation Board was excited and overwhelmed by the over $11,000 in donations directed by community members to the enrolled non-profits.” John said. He added that without community support the Foundation’s mission to support non-profit agencies “who are doing good in our community everyday” would not have been possible.

The nine charities that benefited form the campaign are (In the order of funds received) are: Huntingdon Area Food Pantry, Huntingdon Area Habitat for Humanity, Hometown Hearts (formerly the soup kitchen), Huntingdon County Salvation Army, United Way of Huntingdon County, Huntingdon House, Mount Union Area Food Pantry, Huntingdon Forum of Churches, and the Southern Huntingdon Area Food Bank.
